“Sri Ramakrishna Vivekananda Sangha” latter came to be known as “Taki Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama” was founded in 1931 ,1st January. Dr. Ajit Kumar Roychowdhury, a devotee and philanthropist of Taki established a Primary School ( upto class IV) in the North side of the present Ashrama in his residence.
Latter a upper primary school ( upto class IV) run by teacher Sri Subodh Krishna Das, in his house and a lower primary school ( upto class II) run by Sri Fanibhushan Ghosh at Thuba village, combined had come to be known as Taki Ramakrishna Vivekananda Sangha Uccha Prathamik Vidyalaya.
Sri Ramakrishna Kundu donated a land of 2 bighas for the purpose of Ashrama activities. In 1932, the school building with Tin shed had been constructed in the present location. It was announced in the month of March 1932, that the new school would be open for all from the month of January 1933 and for admission no fees would be charged. The students’ strength gradually increased and the school was upgraded upto class VI in 1935.
In 1938, an appeal to Belur Math for the recognition of Sangha as a branch centre of Ramakrishna Math and Mission was accorded and the new name was given to the then Sangha as “Taki Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama” and the name of the boys section of the Primary school run by Ashrama was given as “Taki Rmakrishna Mission Uccha Prathamik Vidyalaya”. The girls section of the school run by Ashrama was named “Taki Ramakrishna Mission Balika Vidyalaya”.
In 1943, the school was granted as Middle English (ME) by the Education Department of West Bengal Government. Due to the increased number of admission of students school was upgraded upto 8th Standard. To follow the ideal of Gurukul System preached by Swami Vivekananda a Hostel was also opened for character building and man making education as envisaged by Swamiji.
In 1946, the school was recognized as Extended Middle English School by the Education Department of West Bengal Government. The special coaching for Class IX and X was started by the help of a group of dedicated teachers.
In 1954, the school was recognized as Secondary School by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education.
From 1st of January 1966, the school was upgraded as Higher Secondary School ( Ucchatara Madhyamik Vidyalaya, upto Class XI) but latter in 1976, Education Department withdrew the upgraded status . Till then, the school has been running as a Secondary School.
